Lent poems #20 & #21

Since I failed to post a poem yesterday (it could have been a mental block at reaching the half way stage), I have posted two in today’s entry, albeit one is a haiku.

What drives the herds of humankind

towards the mouth of Mammon at weekends;

the lemming –like desire to plunge headfirst

with cash and cards towards consumer lures?

Fashion fads demand a common currency.

Week by week, by the weak-willed,

and it endures.

Just walk on by (Buy These Shoes!)

resist temptation, go and have a coffee –

(This is the one George Clooney would choose!)

Silence speaks volumes,

And volumes stand so silent

On library shelves.
