Lent poem #34

Having had a workout during the morning today, I was not expecting to exert myself further. However, the incident related in poetic form that follows had me sprinting about sixty yards down the A4.

The gentle whirr of the engine

of the new local ‘hybrid’ bus

ferries us all into town. No fuss

until a lavish alarm bell alarms those who slumber

as the phone owner bellows ‘Hello!’

With mobile fixed fast to her cheek,

oblivious to all others around,

she alights unaware of the sound

and the shouts of ‘You’ve forgotten your bag!’

She’s away down the street

when I leap to my feet

and chase her along with her shopping.

With the merest of ‘Thanks’ and without stopping,

or even a slight hesitation

she continues her loud conversation.
