Resolving to solve a solution

There are numerous suggestions on social media networks providing the secrets to successful writing. And writing magazines carry articles and a plethora of adverts as to how to become a successful writer. But what is considered a success? How can it be quantified? Earning enough income through writing to make it a profession? Agreeing a six-figure sum book deal with a leading publisher? Or, as in my own case, actually completing a target word count, or having a piece of work published. Self-satisfaction is a success in itself (what a lot of ‘s’ sounds).
A quote on Twitter today from Henri Matisse: ‘Creativity takes courage.’ In other words don’t play safe. Push the boundaries. I reckon therefore that for the forthcoming year I should seek to extend my writing into areas that I have not yet explored. But the underlying essential is for discipline. We shall see.
