A Walk on the Wild Side

A beautiful evening walk along the Thames with fellow members of my writing group – Slough Writers – found me making a closer examination than usual of all things nature has on offer: meadow flowers and midges, riverbank blooms and gaggles of geese. One particular type of goose caught my eye which my research informs me is an Egyptian Goose (Alopochen aegyptiacus) and which was once a rarity in England, although its numbers have increased in recent years. Originating in North Africa, it seems like the increasingly warmer climate of Britain is now helping it to thrive.
